🚂 A Piece of PAEX History Restored
Our iconic red caboose has been part of the Prince Albert Exhibition grounds since 1979, and we’re proud to continue preserving this piece of Canadian railway history.
Originally built by National Steel Car in 1920 as CN Boxcar 790960, it was rebuilt into a wooden caboose at Canadian National’s London, Ontario shops in 1957. At the time, it was common practice for Canadian National to convert older boxcars into cabooses, and this practice continued through the 1960s and 1970s.
Beginning in 2024, the caboose underwent a significant restoration by the Prince Albert Exhibition, with upgrades to both the interior and exterior. The restoration was completed in 2025, and in July 2026, the CN logo and car numbers were carefully repainted by Colby Lavigne, bringing the caboose back to its historic appearance.
A huge thank you to Colby Lavigne for her incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail in restoring the CN logo and car numbers. We also want to recognize everyone involved in the restoration project for helping preserve this special piece of PAEX history for future generations.
